The Mehus family wanted Minnesota fall family photos that captured warmth, connection, and the beauty of autumn. We photographed their session in soft outdoor light with the golden tones of fall surrounding them, which created the perfect backdrop for a relaxed and genuine family experience. And using my Sony AIV camera with my Sigma Art lenses was the perfect match.
The Mehus family brought so much ease and joy to their session. Because fall in Minnesota naturally offers rich color and soft light, we were able to create portraits that felt warm, relaxed, and completely true to them. The kids were free to explore, laugh, and move around, and those little in-between moments gave the gallery so much personality.
In addition the cooler temperatures and gentle breeze brought a calm energy to the evening. Families tend to settle in quickly during fall sessions because the season itself feels grounding and nostalgic. The Mehus family embraced that feeling and let the moments unfold naturally which gave us a beautiful mix of posed portraits and candid storytelling.
Fall is one of the easiest seasons to photograph in Minnesota. The colors are full and vibrant, the sun sits lower in the sky, and everything looks naturally warm. As a result Minnesota fall family photos often feel timeless and emotionally rich. The Mehus family’s session captured all of that, from the soft golden tones to the quiet moments shared between parents and kids.
Parents often tell me they want images that reflect both connection and personality. Overall this session offered exactly that. The changing leaves, comfortable temperature, and relaxed atmosphere helped create portraits that feel honest, playful, and full of heart. These are the kind of images families return to year after year because they hold something real.
